Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is the best place to learn about Pensacola’s Maritime History and is Fun For The Whole Family.
The Lighthouse and Museum are located right across from the National Naval Aviation Museum.
The Pensacola Lighthouse was built in 1859 and is located onboard the Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS).
The Pensacola Lighthouse towers over Pensacola Bay at 151 feet tall. It was built out of brick on top of a granite foundation in 1859 and was automated in 1965.
The property it sits on is less than one acre in size.
The Lighthouse has a light focal height of 190 feet and can be seen up to 27 nautical miles away.
The Pensacola Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters were added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 1974.

Some Tips Before You Go Visit The Pensacola Lighthouse and Maritime Museum
- Bring proper ID
- Wear shoes with a secured back
- Climbers must be at least 44″ tall or 7 years old. Children 12 & under can not climb without a ticketed adult.
- Use the Public Gate located at 1878 South Blue Angel Parkway. (The Navy Boulevard Gate is restricted to military personnel).
- No oversized purses or backpacks are allowed on the property.

The Pensacola Lighthouse Access & Reservation Information
Currently, the Pensacola Naval Air Station is only open to current DOD ID card holders and Veterans Health Identification Card holders.
The lighthouse is located on NAS, and NAS is currently closed to all civilians.
There are however options if you want to visit the Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum as a civilian.
You may make reservations online and then you will be picked up by the Lighthouse shuttle bus and taken to the Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.
According to the Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum website, civilian guests with any type of tour reservations MUST be picked up by the Lighthouse shuttle bus.
You will NOT be able to drive yourself to the Lighthouse without a military ID that grants you base access.
Their website also advises, “When booking for Ghost Hunts or Blue Angels Viewings, you must select whether your party is “Civilian” or “Military.”
Please pay careful attention to these customer types and what they mean, and select appropriately.”

Important Information
- Children must be at least 6 years old and at least 44” tall to attend this tour.
- Please wear shoes with a secured back. If you are wearing backless shoes without a heel or ankle strap, you will be asked to climb the lighthouse tower barefoot.
- Backpacks and other oversized bags must be left in your vehicle, as they cannot be taken into the museum or tower, and cannot be left in the gift shop.
- Please note that this shuttle bus only stops at the Lighthouse, and does not visit any of the other attractions aboard NAS Pensacola.
